My question is simple, my front suspension is completely apart. In theory there should be no tension or "load" on the torsion bars. I should just be able to unbolt them and pull them off with no puller or special tools. Does this theory sound correct?

There is still tension on them. When I did mine a couple of months ago I went down to Jtsmith's (Jon) and what he used was a 6 ton bottle jack. It works better IMO than the puller.

Remove the torsion key cover then the adjuster bolt. Put the head of the jack under the pillot hole in the torsion key where the puller would go and lift it to where you have enough space to pull the nut out.

Then slowly let the jack down.

Thanks, ill check these methods out this weekend when i have to pull them out. Hopefully the pads arent to jacked up to reuse, i dont wanna buy new ones, its only for a few weeks till i get my coilovers.
