torsion twist question

I will soon be lowering my 96 Sport with the kit from Explorer Express, so I have a question about the torsion twist thing. Can you do the opposite by losening the bolts? Also does anyone know how many turns you go to get one inch of lift/drop?

I believe that the adjusting bolts are neither all the way in, nor all the way out, so yes, you should be able to lower your front end a bit. Good luck

I'm running into the same sort of prolem.
Question is: Where are these torsion rod bolts located?
I'm going to try to level my explorer myself.

Plus I can't find a repair manual for this year explorer.

I have a lowered '99 sport, and the torsion bar lower is a piece of cake. If you follow the bar from the front wheels, to the opposite end, about half way down the truck, you will see there is a screw attached in sort of a lever fashion. If you unscrew the bolt it will lower that wheels ride height, if you tighten it it will increase the ride height. Thats it, piece of cake.

Try Haynes #36024 for a manual.It has had everything I need for my 95. It says 1991 thru 1995 on the cover. Your 97 should be similar in most areas, especially the suspension.
