I was thinking of making some front tow hooks, but im not positive how/best placement for them. I have a welder and im about to go buy hooks, just wanted to make sure i know what im getting myself into first, thanks.

bolt them on the frame
many bad stories about welding the hooks on the frame

yeah I was going to do the same thing, only I did a BL and I fabed my own bumper brackets so the old one on the inside of the bumper sticks out of the hole in the front bumper for air to get to the radiator/condensor. I was thinking of mounting some D shackles or something like that to them, would that hold up?

Definatly bolt them on, no welding. Just get a set from Pep Boys or Autozone and bolt them to the bottom of your frame rails. There is alread one hole there so all that is needed is to drill one more 1" hole on each side.

The Chevy front hooks work very nice also and you can get them at any Chevy/GMC dealer.

Like the other stated bolt them on. Many places will not allow you to wheel if you have welded on tow hooks.

 where? I've never heard of that.
I have mine welded to mounting plates for my front bumper that bolt in the frame. They are very strong.

I'm actually at ft. bragg a lot. My sister goes to campbell there. oh and i appreciate the bolting advice, i was almost set on welding them.
