Need info on factory installed tow package wiring. Could use wiring diagram or basic knowledge on how relays are activated. I bought the X used and no factory plug for harness! It's @2:00 pm saturday need to tow trailer sunday . No parts store open and forget the dealership. Any and all help welcome.

You can get an adapter that fits inline with the wiring harness that is in the rear compartment on the driver side. It should be available at a local parts store (Autozone, CarQuest, Napa, etc.). You can use this until you are able to get the adapter that fits in the factory plug.

Do you have the 8 prong plug under the bumper that comes with the tow package? I made an adapter for my '92 from there. I can't readily find the schematic I drew. Essentially went like this. With a voltmeter I found which three wires had voltage with each light (tail, right signal, left signal) and which was ground. The current from these three wires has gone through the relays. when these are grounded, current flows the respective relay and actuates it, sending current through on of the other four wires in the plug; you'll need a voltmeter again to tell which. that current needs to be sent to the respective trailer light(s).
It boils down to you need seven wires. one ground, three that go directly to ground, and three that go to the three trailer lights (tail, right signal, left signal).
Does that make sense? I'll try to find my schematic and scan it in.

Recreated the schematic in Paint. It's crude and freehanded, but should show you how each circuit looks. http://www.xmission.com/~vondm/trailerwire.bmp
