Hello to all.

With all the great advice I see on this site, I tell everyone who owns an Explorer to check this site out. There are A LOT of great guys (and girls) on this site. Just a quick question; I know not to tow in overdrive. Is this because of the increased wear of throwing the trans in and out of gears OR because of the actual gear being weak? I am asking this because I got 7mpg towing a boat this holiday weekend and on the way back, I put it in overdrive once I was at speed and it did not hunt for gears (and I got 11mgp). Was this OK? My boat is a 3425lb Ebbtide so it is not light. I already have the trans cooler and just had the trans fluid changed so everything was OK when I got back. Thanks in advance!!

I believe it is a combination of the increased shifting and the extra strain in such a low gear creating lots of heat.
Heat = Slipping = Wear = Death.
