Towing on 265/75R16 tires.

I was wondering if I just made a mistake buying my new tires. Has anyone towed anything using 265/75R16 tires on their Explorer? I am looking at moving twice in the next 6 months. Am I going to ruin my new tires by pulling a Uhaul trailer for 12hrs?

As long as the tires are rated for the load, you should not have a problem.

I'm not worried about the tire holding up. I worried about the backend dropping from the load of the trailer and rubbing on the +1 sized tire.

if you load the trailer right you should be ok execpt uhaul will not rent you a trailer

Yeah I know about Uhaul issue. Kind stupid because it was issue with a bad tire on the 2nd Gen model. I don't see how it relates to the redesigned 3rd Gen. Anyway, I am going to borrow a friends pickup and pick it up.

That's how I rented a U-Haul one time...I used my father-in-law's Silverado to go pick it up. I dont think you will have a problem unless it's a VERY heavy load. I recently hauled my sister's Grand Caravan on my dad's trailer (which weighs 1900 lbs empty) and my X only droped about 2 inches in the rear. I hauled it for and hour like it wasn't back there (60+ mph). But that was with 235-70-16 tires. But I think my new 245-75's would clear fine too.

I towed quite a bit with upsized tires- with the OD locked out, it actually helped lower RPM's at highway speed. You may feel a little more strain when accelerating, but nothing I'd worry about.
