Hi guys. I'm going to be replacing my Ranger before to long and I want something that can tow my 2006 Mustang GT on a open trailer a few weeks out of the year. Will a 3rd gen 4x4 or awd V8 Explorer hold up to that? Anyone tow anything similar?

Just a couple of questions:
1) how heavy is the combined weight of the 'stang and trailer?
2) how far are you going to be towing?
3) how many hills on the route your going to be towing?
You will be fine, I have a 2002 4.6, I tow my 91 GT on an open trailer all the time. I just recommend getting trailer brakes, it definitely makes life easier..
If you're towing something that heavy, you should look for an Explorer model with the factory towing package installed. You'll want to install a brake controller, and maybe a transmission temp gauge.
Hope this helps.
