Hi guys. I'm going to be replacing my Ranger before to long and I want something that can tow my 2006 Mustang GT on a open trailer a few weeks out of the year. Will a 3rd gen 4x4 or awd V8 Explorer hold up to that? Anyone tow anything similar?

Just a couple of questions:
1) how heavy is the combined weight of the 'stang and trailer?
2) how far are you going to be towing?
3) how many hills on the route your going to be towing?

Car is at or new 3400 wet. Trailer with tools and tires I would guess near 1000. Intermediate hills. I live in eastern Iowa.

I'd be abit worried about the transmission. If it was all flat or only a short haul you'd probably be right.

You will be fine, I have a 2002 4.6, I tow my 91 GT on an open trailer all the time. I just recommend getting trailer brakes, it definitely makes life easier..
