towing with a 4.0 eng

how does a 4.0 tow a trailer with a car on it.

It's not really the motor you need to worry about, it's the tranny.

I wouldn't tow more than 3500 lbs often or for a long distance (over 50 miles or so). I've towed about 5000 with mine but that probably contributed to my tranny problems.
 






I towed 4000lb's from NY to Cali in December at high speeds (70+mph) and for the most part, my truck did very well. Gas milage was aweful and I have some lifter tick but other than that, she made it fine.
 






ok, have to tow about 12-1500 lbs of furniture from Memphis to Indy, just flushed the tranny and changed the filter about 25-3000 miles ago. Never had a problem yet, you all think I should rent a U-Haul truck or just use the X?

1500 lbs + a trailer wont be too bad.

On the Explorer you also have to worry about the leaf springs sagging from towing.
