I've got a '95 xlt with manual tranny and the 3.55 rear end open diff. I am thinking about putting on a reciever hitch, but was wondering if it had enough guts to tow anything. as it is with 31's on the rims I have to slip the clutch pretty good with ac on and going up hill. do yo think it would be capable of pulling a car dolly with small car on it? thanks!!

Leave it in 4th gear, & you can do it. I wouldn't tow on a regular basis, but if you need to from time to time it should be ok. With 31's & a load it will be very slow.

Explorers are Rated to Tow 5000lbs, and yes it can be done, we did it all the time from 1992-2002 when my dad got a work truck that he could use to tow our 22 foot ski boat.

Of course the 31's will decrease the torque applied to the groud, you should still be able to tow fine.
