Well I recently bought a 06wrx and love it aside from the glass transmission. So im gettin into the whole pumpin in power thing.

My questions are what are the big things stopin me from boostin my explorer 1995xlt4x4auto ?

can I get bigger injectors?
can I get a stand alone computer?
why did one member put the turbo all the way at the back of the car?
can I get headers for a twin turbo setup?
is the maf a big problem?
is heat going to be a problem?
can I get a better feul delivery system?

Apparently not - injectors, maf size, etc.. all have been discussed many times.

haha yeah they have, almost as many times as cold air intakes or what size tires will fit an explorer! man I forgot you guys are right your always right! Dang what was I thinking asking about such a heavilly discussed topic!

Note quite as often but they have been discussed before.

Ok here you go then

can I get bigger injectors? Yes. 5.0 Mustang injectors will work...you can order em from Steeda or wherever. Make sure you get a MAF/Tune for the new ones tho.

can I get a stand alone computer? Yes, you can use an SDS EM-4, for example...that's what I use. For the SDS system, you can Pm a guy called Racin' Ranger on rangerpowersports.com

why did one member put the turbo all the way at the back of the car?No need to worry about fitting a turbo under the hood that way plus no need for turbo headers.

can I get headers for a twin turbo setup? Sure, but you'll have to call around and find someone to make them custom for you. I think there was a guy called Kraven or something like that who was talking about making TT headers/kits for the 4.0. Find him on rangerpowersports.com

is the maf a big problem? No. Just get a bigger one. I used to run a Pro-M 80mm before I went to a stand alone. Now I have MAP so I no longer need a MAF. I got my 80mm maf from Dan at Accelerated Race Technology. his website is www.speedfreak.cc. Nice guy and he knows a lot, call him up.

Is heat going to be a problem? Depends on what you mean. If you mean the heated air charge from the turbo....as long as you intercool or use water injection, no. If you mean the heat coming off of the turbo itself....a rear mount turbo would make sure it doesn't get too hot. Or look for a guy named Omar Figaroa (sp?) on rangerpowersports.com. He fabricated his own turbo setup and it's under his hood....ask him.

can I get a better feul delivery system? You can go as crazy as a fuel cell with an Aeromotive A-1000 pump and big stainless steel braided lines if you want (i.e. a guy named 8secsplash on rangerpowersports.com), but you probably don't have to do that. A 190lph mustang pump in your tank combined with a Vortech T-Rex 155lph inline fuel pump will give you all the fuel delivery you need.

I'll probably get in trouble for saying this, but, this is a great site and a I love it, but very few people on here are still seriously modifying the 4.0 OHV motor. With that said, there are a lot of guys on rangerpowersports who are doing the things to the 4.0 OHV that you are interested in, and the info stays fairly current. Again, not knocking this site at all because it's great but the info you're looking for probably isn't on here in great detail.

You can turbocharge your lawn mower if you so desired :)

Lol with a response like that to a bit of re-direction you are lucky that Maximum Violence took pitty on you :D

As he said though few of us get very deep into the 4.0 OHV. A few bolt ons and a BBK Instacharger make up most of the mods commonly done to the OHV. If you really want to get into building the OHV 4.0 let the ranger guys educate you. Personally I have a grand in my engine, and I honestly believe it was a waste of money. That grand could have bought me a used GT-40 5.0 drivetrain. For less money overall I could have had a much more powerful and reliable N/A motor. And as we all know modding a 5.0 explorer is about as easy as pretending it is a 4 wheel drive mustang and buying all the 5.0 'stang goodies.

:D I want a go cart with the hayabusa turbo motor like they tried to do on monster garage
I want a blender that runs off of a twin turbo Rx7 rotary motor. Margarita's in 1.8 seconds. :D

I want the 88 RX-7, or how about turbo the Rx-8, drive it to the bar to get margaritas :)

My dad had a 88 Rx-7 Turbo II with a few "power adders" that friggin car FLEW, great car in its day.

Well, there are only like 3 moving parts. If one of those parts are broke, then it wont run. :D

Of course you can turbo you truck...

well there is no kit, so you have to make your owne. i recomend you search through all the post of rangers and explorers with turbo and get some ideas. i you save all the pictures you come across you can study them and even take them to a shop to get some prices and ideas to have it done for you. you can buy a universal sts kit, you can do a dyi kit with stock manifolds and a turbo from ebay. you can do a kit with actual aftermarket headers flipped forward. all of these have been done before. as far as tunning you need to verify that it is a early eecv processor and you should not have any problems getting tunes for it from a sct dealer. you can get a 80mm lighting maff and get some 36# injectors or 42's. up to you u and you can get a intercooler from ebay similer to dominic and the other turbo truck on the board. now you need to get a 255 intake pump this should be more then enough for the power you are going to run. the rest of the kit is making the pipes and lines and mounting the turbo. make shure you look around and do the right research. i am taking my vortech off my ranger and going turbo in the next year will let u know how it goes.

you need books:

maximum boost by corky bell
turbocharchers by hugh macinnes

thats a good place to start. thers a million turbo sizes and all of them will do something on your motor, just probly not what you want. the books help with selecting sizes for your REALISTIC hp goals. keep in mind your tranny will like the extra power like it likes towing 5000lbs every day. If your going for a twin turbo setup, thats obvious that your wanting alot of power, which takes alot of psi, with requires dropping the CR. your looking at $300 a turbo for twins and $5-600 for a big single (used), $5-600 for pistons, then injectors, pumps, custom headers/manifolds, reworked exhaust... keep in mind everything you need will be dictated by your goal. little power little money, lots of power lots of money. then the inevitable tranny rebuild...

Sure you can! It is all about the money. Don't wanna spend it then you'll get nowhere and turbocharging isn't cheap, but going fast isn't cheap either.
