'06 advancetrac rsc
Hi everyone! have a question.... i have an 06 explorer advancetrac 4x4 and am having a promblem with my tpms. had new tires installed and the shop said when they removed one of the tires the sensor had fallen off and needed replaced. but the funny thing is [hahah] the dummy light had never come on before until they changed the tires. long story short i bought an aftermarket sensor, clamp and band which they installed for free. but the light is still on. so i did some research and found out the sensor must be mounted 180 degree's opposite the valve stem which they did not do. so they said they would correct it but now im reading that the computer has to be reset for the light to go away. any way i can do this on my own or do i need to take it to the dealer cause the shop said they dont know how to do it!. any help would be appreciated. thanks to everyone who responds.

Welcome To Explorer Forum! That is true, the TPMS sensor like yours that is on a band needs to be exactly opposite from the valve stem (they should have eaten the cost since they broke it) And I believe at work they told us that resetting the system only takes like a 15 mile drive or something but you may want to contact your local Ford dealer like they should have done to find the proper procedure for resetting.

We have a special tool that will train the sensors to the car. On the older tpms you could use a magnet.

you can do it your self. you have to go to a ford dealer and buy a tpms sensor reset tool... it's about the size if a keyless entry remote. its grey with a green button and a red led on it.... then there procedures to go through lol. turn the key from off position to run (do not start vehicle) then back off, cycle the key 3 times on last cycle leave key in run/on position then push the brake pedal down once release cycle keys 3 more times, and horn should chip, then a message will appear train LF Tire (if equipped) go to lf tire with tool and hold at sensor (180 from valve stem unless vehicle has the new rubber valve stem style sensor) wait for horn to chirp. Go to next tire and so on. if it doesnt work go to the Ford dealer have them do it and show you how to use said tool in case you were doing it wrong.
