I will be getting an XLT with the 18"s and looking to buy my own set of 20"s. Are the TPMS sensors in the wheels or on the truck? Wondering if I need to buy those as well. They aren't cheap.
TPM sensors are in the tires. They are normally part of the valve stem or mounted internally inside the rim itself. Not sure how ford has it set up on the new ones
Ford TPMS are banded to the rims. I just went through this with my 2010 Adrenalin. I bought a set of sensors and bands from eBay for $160, then paid Discount Tire $100 to dismount my custom wheels / tires, mount the sensors, remount, and rebalance.
Thanx, just went to discount tire and they gave me that option when I selected the tires. 42 per tire. I like how it is free mounting and balancing when buying wheels and tires. Also free shipping!

Thanx!
I read through quite an extensive booklet that my salesman gave me and in it it stated the 2011 Explorer uses TPMS valves. Have not been able to confirm since I yet to see one. The ones in my Highlander were about $85 (CDN) each! I bought them for my Winter wheels. I don't know if I can reuse them on the Explorer or not when I get the Winter rims. Not sure if each manufacturer has its own frequency ranges. The material he gave was actually printed for sales people to familiarize themselves with the Ex so that they could point out various things to the customer.
