Hello all
1994 XL 4.0L OHV explorer 4 door 2wd. What happens is it idles at about 950 rpm once it's warmed up. Prior to this it idles fine at about 700... very confusing. New IAC, all EGR related components, plugs/wires.... could this be my TPS? Or could I have a voltage regulator problem causing my idle to increase? Thanks!

George

Have you checked the voltage at the TPS?

no.... will check when I can. What readings am I looking for?

There will be 3 wires..... one is the ground, one is a constant 5 volt reference wire and the other (the one you want to check) should be somewere between .80 and .99 volts. .95 volts should be about ideal.

okay great, it is about time for me to hit the hay here but tomorrow after school I will check! What would too much or too little voltage lead me to next? What is confusing me is that when it's warmING up the idle kicks down fine, but once it gets hot the idle goes up.... oye! Thank you for your help.

A faulty thermostat will cause an increase in RPM.

it will cause it as I have described?

It can; happened to me before - solved with a new thermostat.

well damn.... I guess I'll go buy one. I tried one at one point from autozone, ran super cold.... put original back in and it's ok. I will go to ford and get a T-stat and see where that gets me. Thank you very much.

well... considering ford wants $24 for a thermostat, I'm going to autozone.... I will have to settle, because my wallet is starving right now :-P
