2000 Explorer XLS 4.0 OHV -Check Engine light was on and I took it to Autozone to be diagnosed. Code 122 was present so I replaced the TPS.

Check Engine light did not go off. I disconnected the battery and it cleared it for about 1 day. Took it back to Autozone and now it shows 121.

Is there something I could have done wrong when replacing the TPS or a step which should have been taken that I may have missed? Haynes manual did not give a detailed explanation as to replacing, just said to make sure it was engaged. How do i know if it was engaged properly?

Thanks for any help!!

Look at the TPS. There is a circular plastic piece with a gap in the middle. Align the gap with the paddle coming from the throttle body. You want it aligned than slightly rotate TPS downward..you will feel slight tension. Screw back in and you're done. If you happened to manually try to turn the plastic piece in the TPS to get proper alignment, you probably broke it and need to replace it with a new one and install as above.
