My truck:

Mostly stock '93 XLT 4x4
225k miles
She runs like a top!
D4 Traction Lock rear with 3:73 gears.

All weekend offroad and in snow and ice my rear locked up fine and pulled her sideways.

But yesterday I put it to the floor in 2nd coming around a corner and all I got was a 35' peg leg burnout.

I was surprised with the 35' (and I did measure)....

I'm thinking since it's the original rear end after 225k miles the clutch's are a bit worn and she doesn't like to lock up hard. That would be why snow and ice and mud she locks fine.

Any input?

Standard test for clutches:

Jack up one wheel, put transmission in N.
Put torque wrench on raised wheel. I usually just grab one of the lug nuts, but, if you really want to, you can find/make a special tool that will center the torque wrench over the axle. I think a dial torque wrench will work better for this, but a "clicker" torque wrench should also be usable.
Rotate raised wheel, noting how much torque is required to rotate the raised wheel.
It's been a while since I read the manual, but, if I remember right, the spec for a used Trac-lock is 20 ft lbs or greater. If it takes less than 20 ft-lbs, then the trac-lock needs fixed (if you want it to behave as an LS).

Thanks, eventually the gears will be going in my '89 Mustang Turbo.

Then the Sploder will get some 4:10's :D
