Hy all, my 99 exploder has a towing package. Should it have a dedicated light harness somewhere at the back end of the truck that I can plug the adapter harness into? If so where is it hiding?

Thanks, Dave

Yes it will be up under the bumper and all you need is the adapter that plugs into the port there.
One like this will be perfect for your needs.

It will be up behind the driver's side taillight. You can access it from down below, or, if it suits you, pull the taillight for easier access. The *proper* kit from Ford will also include the bracket to hang it from the bumper as well as the proper length harness to reach the bumper, and a couple clips to hold it in place.

If he has the tow package he will only need that adapter that i posted and it will be right under the bumper at least that is how my 96 was.

You'll note two things: First, in the description of the one in the link you posted, they show a picture of the driver's side taillight to illustrate the location of the connector. Furthermore, there are two different parts... One for 95-96, and one for 97-01. The connectors are wired differently, and their location was moved (for the 97 model year IIRC, but definitely by 98). For a 99, it'll be up behind the taillight, just as I described.

Second, all second-gens are wired up with the trailer tow wiring. The towing 'package' included the harness, bracket, and a bolt to mount it in place on the bumper, and that harness was dealer-installed during the prep.

Where would one be at for a first gen?

i have a 94 XLT with tow package and mine is tucked up under the bumper towards the passenger side tire

Stumped

Hello everyone
I have a 2008 XLT but I believe no tow package. Do I have to hardwire my brake controller or is there still a plug for it somewhere. The rear has the 4 pin flat already in place. Could not find plug behind glovebox.
