Hello all!

I want to add a trailer hitch to use for towing a small trailer for a riding mower.

I have a 2011 XLT that did not come with the towing package. (Please skip the discussion about the risks to the transmission. I understand...)

2 part question...

I prefer to find a reasonable kit to install the original style OEM hitch with the new receiver cover. Is there a good place to buy a full kit? I am willing to attack the project of removing the whole rear bumper cover to do it...

Failing that - what would be the best after market below-the-bumper style hitch?

Thanks!

Can't help with the OEM kit, but I installed Curt 13100 hitches and 56172 plug-n-play wiring on my 2 explorers and they were pretty easy to install and cost effective (I paid ~$125 delivered for the hitch and the wiring).

eTrailer.com, they have everything and they provide installation video's too. Bought a hitch for my 2017 and it fit perfectly. Wiring is plug and play. Most vehicle have the same wire harnesses so the connectors plug into a connection that is usually capped off somewhere in the back of the vehicle. I installed wiring on my 2001 and the plug for the factory wiring was hiding behind the left tail light. On my 2017 - the factory wiring was hiding on the right side. Good luck.
