It's been a while since I logged on. I wasn't sure where to post this. I tried to rent a motorcyle trailer today from Uhaul and they won't rent to you if you are going to tow it with an Explorer. I knew this was an issue a while ago, but I though Ford was doing something about it. Does anyone know where I can rent a trailer from? I am in Long Island, NY. Thanks.

Jesse

I am also on LI, and had the same problem- there are a couple of smaller rental chains, but at least one of them actually carried u-haul trailers, not their own. nations rent? or national, something like that. try the tool rental places. i finally gave up and rented a budget truck and trailer to pick up a car(never again) because i was so disgusted w/ u-hell. good luck. if you are planning on using it again or for other things, it may be cheaper in teh long run to buy a small trailer(try bj's/costco, pep boys, etc) they even make some that fold in the middle so they take up less space when parked. or buy an old pop-up camper for cheap and gut it!

or you can alway rent the trailer with someone elses car and then transfer it to the explorer once out of sight of u-haul!
good luck, scott

Thanks for the reply. I am using it for a one way rental which makes it even harder. I will see what I can come up with.

Sorry JBain. Seems as if you might be out of luck. U-Haul is still sticking by its guns regarding the No-Explorer policy (but the will rent to Mountaineers and Aviators!), and the smaller rental facilities don't have the resources or the network to make it worth their while to rent one-way. You may end up buying one then reselling it (to an Explorer owner?) at your destination.

Do you not have a Budget rental place? My buddy just rented a one way budget and it was cheaper than the U haul.

Ask someone else to pick it up for you, then tow it with your Explorer. :-) Tell them it is a Mountaineer, and maybe they won't even look. Or, screw UHaul no matter what the hassle, 'cause they suck!
