Search for 'transfer case buzz' or 'transfer case grind'... basically, there are a few things that can fail in the transfer case that can cause the shift fork to fail to hold the low range planetary gear set in-place. When that happens, the helicle cut of the gears forces the gears out of mesh when the gears are reverse-loaded (i.e. when coasting against the engine or when reversing).

If (when??) it happens to mine, I'm going with rebuilt case sections and a modified shift rail and fork from www.omegamachine.com. Quite a few people here have used their parts and have been quite happy with the results. :)

Good luck!
