the 4th gen transmissions (be that the 5R55S or the 6R60, for the v6 or v8 perspectivly), are not plug and play per say, it will be more cost effective to do the rebuild. as hardware and software mods will need to be made. Do the rebuild.. I have plans to do a 6r60 into my V8 when my trans dies, ill make sure to keep you guys informed.

for got to mention that my truck is a 2004 with a V8... iv been reading on here about related problems and some seem to have success with just a PCM flash.. i might try that before i do the rebuild.......

The guy at the trans shop said they are not making this transmission anylonger and only ones u can get are remanufatured ones... so basicaly would be the same as mine after the rebuild .. true/false?

a rebuilt transmission is essentialy as good as new, because everything has been cleaned, and anything that wears has been replaced. the rebuild will be good to go if done right, for 80-120 thousand miles with good maintanance.

well i work at advanced discont auto.. found out tonight i can get a fully reman trans for $1200 with a 3year unlimited mile warrenty
and i got a guy that said he would but it in for $125

ok this is going to end up costing me $1550 thats for a remanufactored tranny with 3yr unlimited milage warenty and 12 quarts of tranny fluid and the labor for the replacment

i think it will be well worth the money since the truck has gave me no other major problems "knock on wood"

$1550 is pretty good... I'm sure the warranty has specifications for when a fluid flush/fill is required, etc... so be sure to do that and keep the paperwork for it.
