Tranny flush

Which way does the tranny oil flow on a 95X? I was trying to flush out my tranny, but had fluid coming out of both hoses and am worried that it isn;t sucking up new fluid. One hose was connected at the bottom of the radiator and the other was to the end of the hose that normally leads to the bottom of the radiator.
Any help would be appriciated!

What radiator? Do you have an aftermarket tranny oil cooler?

Disconnect the top one and leave the bottom one connected.

I do have an aftermarket tranny cooler. we mounted it in line from the bottom of the radiator (the stock cooler) and the line thet returns oil to the tranny. The idea I had SHOULD work, but it didn;t and I ended up getting a huge puddle of my new ATF on the garage floor! :-( I'll try removing the top connection instead.
Any other suggestions helpful!

I tried the same thing with the same result. Then I just detached the top one and dumped the new stuff in the fill tube and changed all 13-14 quarts. The tranny just pumps into the top tube and lets gravity do the rest.

when should the tranny fluid be replaced?

The book says 15K in harsh conditions or 30K in normal conditions for tranny fluid change.

I need some info here. The Haynes is absolutly useless when it comes to trany flush. I will be doing this in the next few months. Plan to replace with Redline Syn. I think I have the game plan (2 boys to help, drain, pour, ignition...)down.
My questions is this..
Directly in front (betwixt grill and main Rad) of the main Radiator at the bottom, sits a smaller radiator, about 6"x 10". Am I correct to assume this is a tranny cooler? I got it used 3 yr ago. and was bone stock. It has no towing equipment, and I can't imagine the previous owner put in an aftermarket...
Pardon my ignorance here but the truck is at school with my son and won't see it for about 2 months.

My stock 94 has a tranny cooler. Mine was a special order for a fleet company and seems to have unusual options. 3.27 gears and a towing package usually don't go together. I have the wiring pig-tail in back, the reinforced step bumper, and the tranny cooler, so I think that's the towing package.

Anyway, it's possible it could have the factory cooler that you describe.

thnx. Wierd though, I also have the 3.27 rear, but no pigtails, heavy-duty anything really. When I get the truck back I will trace the lines to and fro the 'small' rad.

My 94

has the small radiator you are talking about. I assume it is a tranny cooler. If you are looking at the fron of the truck it's on the right side behind the grill.

yeah, this is really strange...no hitch, no trailer pigtail, but there is that 'cooler' in the front ??

Hey, Malcolm,
If your '94 already has the auxiliary tranny cooler, it'll be located on the driver's
side of the truck just in front of the A/C condenser. It'll be about 13" x 7" or so
and 3/4" thick with two neoprone hoses coming out of the bottom of it. You can
very easily see it through the stock grille if you have it.
If you don't have the factory one and want to add one, you can pick up a B&M
'stacked plate' type from www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com for around
$50 bucks for a 19,000 GVW cooler, which should be more than good enough for
you.
