I'm having problems getting a solid answer to this from people at work...

When you get your tranny serviced should you get the tranny fluid flushed out(all 16 qts or whatever and not change the filter) or drop the pan and change the filter and only add the 4-6 quarts then and leave the other 10 or so quarts in there.

I service my tranny every 15,000 or so just to keep it running fine and some people have told me to only flush your system if it is routine maintance, and drop the pan and put a new filter put it if your tranny is slipping or having troubles.

What do you guys do...or should you maybe rotate every 15,000(change pan filter one time and then flush next time)

Thanks for the help

I have mine flushed every 30K miles, with a new filter. No problems so far and I'm over 80K on the X.

Knock on wood. ;)

I do a filter change and complete flush every 30K. I have 102K of trouble free miles on my tranny. If you wait until it starts to slip or other problems before you do a complete flush, you've likely waited too long.

What I do is as follows:

Every two years a complete flush
At 50k miles, I changed the filter.

I have an external filter installed and change that filter ever 10k miles ( there is never anything in it on an internal inspection, Further, I only use synthetic ATF ( either Mobil 1 or Amsoil ).

Good luck…..

Just drop the pan

The reason is to change to the new MicroFelt filter instead of that stupid screen filter. And you will probably need to change it every 15K for the next couple of times because it will get dirty. Just tell them you have a 97 V6 whatever at the part store. Buy a few SPX and stockup at www.bulkpart.com for only $10. The pan gasket is a seperate order item. Use new hardware sent or the filter will drop down. Add some extra magnets.
