- 97' XLT V6-OHV 4x4
First off just want to say this has been a very informative forum and I'm glad to be apart of it now. Maybe you guys can atleast get me on the right track for my problem. My Explorer is a late 97' XLT V6-OHV 4x4. The transmission was just flushed about 10,000miles ago. This issue has just started as the weather has gotten colder. On cold mornings I can start the explorer up and it will run just fine. I take off in it and as it shifts through the gears is seems to have a slight hesitation. When it makes it into 3rd gear the hesitation is more pronounced. After it shifts into 4th it'll be a real soft buck almost like the engine is surging which gets horribly worse if I happen to be driving up a hill. It actually sounds like a loud thud when I'm driving up a hill. After a few miles this completely stops and it runs perfectly. It only does it on colds days. When the issue first started I thought maybe a solenoid or valve was sticking so I removed some transmission fluid and added the Lucas tranny additive. It doesn't seem to have helped at all. I've heard that the TC on these transmissions use a temp sensor to adjust when and how they lock up. Could this be the cause? TIA for any help you guys can give me.
