Ok folks, so i think my tranny is ready to take a seat in the junk yard, basically it has 220,000 miles and has done some harsh towing and high speed driving for a while so i think it's time to go, the fuild is fresh so is the filter, but recently it's not shifting correctly, it's holding the rpm too high and not dropping gears fast enough, also my gas mileage is shot to hell and back, i used to cruise 65 at 2000 rpm now it's around 2500 rpm.............any ideas?

well if it does come downt to swapping the tranny, is it possible to swap to a manual? I have a 5.0 with 4x2 ( no transfer case) other than the logicistics of setting up a clutch, and shifter which i am not afraid of, and a new drive shaft , bell housing, cross member configuration etc ( not issues), how to i get the enginer computer to mesh with a manual, like a T5? would i have to swap out the engine computer? any ideas?

thanks

well before swapping to a stick, did you ever think your issue could be in your tranny modulator? thats what it sounds like to me. also check your vacuum hoses too because as you know an auto tranny shifts based on vacuum pressure. just a simple fix that would save ya money and time. but i gotta admit a 5 speed x would be pretty sweet

I really wanted to do this swap for awhile and from what i gathered, to have a 5.0 and a manual tranny you'd need an OBD-I or Carb'd motor, since their was no OBD-II computer for a 5.0 and manual trans.

Try a valve body rebuild first with fresh fluid, and a band adjustment. Replace the EPC solenoid too. Check Allbert's thread on signing up to test one of their new EPC solenoids. You will receive it for free, and get $100 too. They have 2 left, so don't delay!

Full size bronco guys are doing the swap behind 5.0's on ECC-V engines. They are using a ZF5 trans from F250's. Its a "medium duty" whereas the m5od is a light duty. I am contemplating this swap at some point in the future.

You can have the OBD-2 computers tuned to delete any function you like.

Don't want an Automatic transmission? Delete it out of the computer tune.

Don't want the PATS? Delete it out of the computer tune.

You can't just 'plug and play'...but it CAN be done.

Ummmm, check the codes if any are stored in the PCM first?. I think it'll cost more to swap to a manual trans than just repairing what you have. The clutch setup Im sure will bolt in from the V6 5-speeds. Ford used that universal connector at the end of the clutch master cyl. line which should attach to most other Ford hydraulic setups. They also had made cable and hydraulic versions of the same trans to make it easier to adapt, what works? beats me. :)
