So this morning i was leaving my house, in my neighborhood, doing about 30, noticing it wasnt shifting, and it kinda sounded like it was half-assed in neutral, like when id hit the throttle hard, it would go but then it almost sounded like i was revving the engine.

When i got on the road, doing about 35 it was still revving at like 4000 RPM's, so i shifted out of OD, and it went to like 2100, then i shifted back into OD, and it went to the usual 1400, after that, it seemed to be fine,

but again, i didnt drive much at all today, and it was relitively all just a straight shot, no stop and go like usual.

What would cause it to not shift like that, the previous owner had put a new trans in it "supposedly" but i checked the trans fluid just about 2 days ago and its where it should be.

Also, (my friends 94' is the same way) when i put it in reverse, i have to wait about 5 seconds before it actually shifts into it, its like its in neutral for those 4 or 5 sec's.

Any ideas?

was going to say check the fluid but since you did that, It could be a number of things, trans realted and not, I don't know much about transmissions so hopefully someone who knows more will come along and help you. But what it sounds like to me is your torque converter slipping.

As for your friends, does he take it off road or do burnouts with it? The lash in his rear differential could be messed up. Mine takes a second to shift into reverse as well, I'm planning on getting it adjusted up when I get lockers for it.

The lazy reverse shift is usually due to a leaky seal around the reverse shift servo, which makes the servo work its way through a bunch of fluid and slow down, if I read correctly. I don't believe it hurts anything, just an annoyance.

As for your car, sounds kind of like it's not detecting the motor warming up, possibly a malfunctioning thermostat?

Also, I heard OD can go out, leaving other trans functions okay. Personally I always leave OD off in town because it's easier on the transmission and I like the extra power. I've read that you only want to be in OD if you're going to average over 55MPH; I note that my X really moves on the freeway when I'm in OD but is not as happy in Drive at those speeds.

yeah ever since i bought it, the temp gauge has NEVER worked, well its moved from about half a centimeter from below the lowest temp it will read, to about the first line (all the way down still)

i heard that driving not in OD burns up the tranny quicker...
hm i might just do that from now on i guess. plus i noticed it revs lower in OD...like half a thousand less than in D
