I just bought my truck, its a 91 with a 6 inch skyjacker lift and 3 inch body on 35's, solid front axle, etc etc.

The guy told me the trans is new, the truck has 188k on the odo, He also said it has a shift kit installed.

When i romp on it and it would be doing a 4-2 shift it literally acts like its in neutral, doesn't even try to grab a gear. you let off and it will get 3rd. This morning it also decided to not shift into 2nd, it rode out 1st on redline and then smoothly shifted into 2nd. Now tonight it doesn't want to stay in overdrive, it likes to go right between 3rd and 4th and back and forth.

Now my question is does this sound like a solonoid issue, shift kit maybe? who knows. I've never rebuilt an auto trans but i would much rather take that on then to buy a junkyard trans and run the risk of getting junk.

Any info would be great, thanks in advance!

I would talk to the guy you bought it from and ask for more info on this shift kit and tell him what its doing. Maybe he forgot to tell you something...

Mine used to do the exact same thing. And my rig is completely stock with 157k on the clock. One day I had pulled up to a stop light, when it turned green I romped on it. It moved 2 feet and felt like I bumped it into nuetral. It would still move if I revved up to 4-5k. But only barely enough to get off the road. I ended up replacing the trans all together. I still havent torn the old one apart to see how it died.
Just be prepared for a dead tranny soon.

well i got one ordered from the junkyard, 115k for 350, i'm gonna do a 5 speed swap next year and get rid of the auto crap anyway

he said it had an adjustable shift stiffness screw on it which i have yet to find, but the not shifting into second crap and the fact that overdrive is basically gone leads me to the fact that this thing is toast anyway

Maybe so... I'm glad I found my two manual x's, especially after reading some of the horror stories in this forum... of course one of the trannies is locked up, so I'm not much better off.

I traded a 91 e250 cargo van for them.
