Tranny question

I just bought an 03 ST and every where I look says it has a 5 speed automatic but it appears that it's only a three speed with over drive, what gives, is there something that I'm missing?

Have it checked for any codes if you think there is a problem. If you do not know the service history I would suggest fluid/filter and band adjustment. Again, when I buy a vehicle and do not have the service history I do a complete tune-up and servicing. Fluids, filters, wires, plugs, thermostat, adjustments, etc. Then not only do you have a baseline to work from if you run into any issues, you prevent most problems. But that's just me.

Sorry but maybe you didn't understand the question, every thing I read about states it should be a 5 speed automatic but when you look at the shifter there's only a 1 2 d then overdrive

Aha, further clarification... you are indeed correct, it is a 5 speed and you can only select 123 and OD. That's how Ford rolls...

With a warmed up engine, count how many times it shifts when you accelerate crisply. There should be 5 drops in RPM including TCC lock up.
