Wanted tranny swap??

hey all im new to the forum so ill try my best not to sound too much like a noob.okay i have a 1995 ford explorer the tranny is totally shot:thumbdwn:.i went looking around and a guy has a 1993 ford explorer tranny for 300 bucks.but my question is will it fit on my 95?cause i was told it was the first year of the electric tranny?please let me know asap.will be much appretiated,ken

No, it won't work. Your 95 transmission is a 4R55E (electronically controlled).

The 93 transmission is a A4LD (not electronically controlled).

It might bolt in ok, but the PCM (powertrain control module) will expect a 4R55E and will not be happy.

Welcome to this forum! What kind of problem does your old one have? It might be possible to repair without having to replace it.

it wont go into gear reverse and the oil is black.what happend was the trany cooler in the rad broke and all the coolant went into the tranny.apparently it is toast after that.thanks for all your help and the welcome

You should be able to use a 95 or 96 transmission (4R55E).

The earlier years (91 - 94) used the A4LD which did not have electronic shift solenoids.

In 97, Ford introduced the 5R55E and it is similar, but has different electronics for the extra forward gear. The transmission would bolt in, but the PCM (powertrain control module aka engine computer) will expect to see a 4R55E.

Yes, it should work. If you are getting from a wrecking yard or a rebuilder, they should be able to verify this. You need a 4R55E transmission for your 95. They were offered in 95 and 96 model years.
