I was wondering what was required to install a temp guage in my 99 x with the 5r55e. Looking at sites that sell the guages doesn't give much info about installation. Also, what are the differences in electronic and mechanical guages? thanks

What I have seen is a brass piece with compression fittings on both ends and 1/4" port for a temperature sensor in the sender. You should place the sensor in the line leading to the tranny cooler.

I've used a mechanical pressure gauge before. You run the fluid all the way up to the gauge so the pressure can be measured directly.

Electrical gauges use a sending unit at the source and then send the signal to the gauge through a wire. I'm not sure how an automotive style, mechanical temperature gauge would work. I would think you would need to have the gauge in a loop in order to see the right temp.

Anyone know?

Thanks rick. anyone else have any knowledge on the subject?
