O/D light starting flashing today, took it to get the code read, P1746-Electrical Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid-open circuit.

So off to the tranny shop tomorrow, I was gonna change the fluid/filter and update the 1-2 shift accumulater, but now I guess I'll have the shop do it since they'll have to drop the pan anyways.

Is there anything else I should have them check/look at while it's there?? If anything is marginal, I think I'm gonna tell them to go ahead and rebuild the tranny, we plan on keeping the X for a while.

How much should I look at for rebuilding a 4R70W??

Thanks

They are going to tell you it needs rebuilt, even if it does not need it.

I would not get it rebuilt yet. You said before it was shifting fine. Get the solenoid fixed, update the Accum piston and change fluid. If it shifted fine before, it will shift even better after that work.

No need to rebuild a tranny that does not need it yet.

The cost of a rebuild can run between $1,500 and $2,200, so... I think I'd wait a bit before putting out that much cash. If you do the routine upkeep items (and add a tranny cooler), you'd be surprised how many miles you can put on a tranny.

All good advice, and that trannie is pretty sturdy. I've got 200K on my 92 A4LD. An add on cooler is a terrific idea.

Happy Exploring

I really trust this tranny shop, they rebuilt the tranny (e4OD) in my F-350 about 3 years ago. It is a small family owned shop, I live over an hour away from it now, but they treated me real good last time, so I trust them with my X. I am gonna bring it there tomorrow, they are busy so they might not get to look at it until late tihs week or early next week though. I'll cross my fingers all it needs is the solenoid, but if they find anything else wrong, I guess I'll just get it rebuilt.

It was shifting perfectly fine before, the shifts always have been real soft though...
