1995 Explorer sport 4x4
Well let me begin. I have a 1995 explorer sport 2dr 4.0 4x4 i believe its the ford AOD transmission. I went over some bad railroad tracks pretty fast and didnt realize they were so rough. After that my trans dosent shift into 2nd gear i have to get the revs up let off the gas and it will go into third. I checked vacum lines and the fluid is not burnt. What else can it be. I did get a code and when i ran the tool i recieved "INCORRECT GEAR RATIO FOR 2ND GEAR" I was thinking it could be a broken band but my brother says it could be stuck solenoides or valves?? Any ideas?? Thanks

Steve

I doubt it's something major if it was working fine earlier and a bump suddenly caused it to start mis shifting. I would start by checking the electrical harnesses, clean them out, put some electrical grease in them and let us know from there

Well ill check on those when i get to it. Another thing i dont know if this has anything to do with it, but my brother was driving my explorer with me as the passenger before i had the shifting troubles. He whent to put it in neutral when we were doing about 55 mph and went to far and hit reverse, after that i had a few problems with downshifting. That went away and then i hit the bump.

Welcome to this forum! If you went into reverse while going 55 MPH, then you probably ruined a one way sprag before you hit a bump. The 95 with a 4.0L uses a 4R55E transmission. Try a band adjustment just to see if the bands are capable of being adjusted. If not, then check the pan for band parts.
