:exp: HELP!
I have a 93' XLT, 4wd. With the A4LD Tranny.
About a month ago, I went to start the truck and my keys got caught in the shifter on the column, and the truck half started and popped the hoses off the vaccuum tree. It's happened before. I went under the hood and reconnected them and went home. The next day I got in the truck and drove down the street and it wouldn't shift into 2nd. From all the info I was given, most likely vaccuum hose's and transmission modulator. I came on here and Found Brooklyn Bay's sticky #56, and replaced the tranny modulator and the hose. The truck has alot more power, i can feel it when I hit the gas. The only problem is the truck STILL WON'T SHIFT :0). I checked under the hood and messed with the hoses a little bit, some are a little worn but none cracked, and some tranny fluid dripped out of the hose going to the cruise control (that never worked), I also noticed the hose to the seems to be collapsing.
Anyone have a clue what's up, or what I can do? I've spent so much $$ on this truck that I'm not about to shoot the grill and send it to the graveyard. any help or insight at all would be greatly appreciated. TY!:us:

Did you clean the hose with seafoam, and the bore of the modulator with a wire brush? Is it an adjustable modulator? A sticking governor could cause a 1-2 shift issue. The intermediate servo might be bad or the band could be out of alignment (or broken). Did you adjust the kickdown cable or the bands?

will it shift into 2nd if you do it on the column

i replaced the hose, I put a new extension between the modulator and steel hose from the front, (steel brush nope), it is an adjustable. I didn't adjust it at all. I'm not sure how to check the governor, but i did read a thread where you need to drop transfer case. I'm, sry when it comes to transmissions, I'm on the unknowledgeable side. Anything else i'm good. :0) I replaced the kickdown last year, and when i hear bands, I'm totally lost. I'm starting to wonder if i really should have junked my 91' and 92'.

Check to see if you have manual 2. If that is functional it is likely a sticking speed governor. This insures that the vehicle is actually moving befor shifting into second. In the scope of other possible problems, this is fairly easy to polish and put back together. I suspect this is not your problem since this would likely be an occasional problem. Forget adjusting bands. These are pretty much self adjusting nd you can cause a pack of troubles. I suspect a band snap likely brought on by a little hot dogging as a result of the bad vacuum modulator.

I have a sticky thread on the top of the transmission section with information on how to adjust the bands. The modulator might have to be adjusted as well.

I have a simular problem, My 94 4X4 slips then skips 2ng gear.
3rd & 4th lock up fine. My first thought and actoin was a band adjustment then mess with the adjustible Modulator... How are they suppose to be adjusted?

With no real gain in 2nd gear lock up I am about to replace the trans or at least open it up to see if there is a mechanical reason for this problem.

Could it be the valve body, solinoid or ?

Thanks
