trans cooler question

Hey all, I am getting my 03 sport trac ready to tow my 2400# (dry) trailer and I just picked up another trans cooler for it. I am just wondering if it is a good idea to just put it in series with the stock one or if there is a better way to hook it up? I have been searching the site but it looks like most people tap into the lines going into the rad. I have not had too much experience with these before.

Any advise would be great.

Hi there, I just plumbed mine in series and have had no problems pulling a 25 ft aerolite, approx 3,500 wet. The main problem is aerodynamic drag, Ford lists square footage of frontal area allong with weight as deciding factors in tow capacity and rating. My trailer is only 7 ft wide and 7 ft tall. The main reason I bought this trailer. A couple of other tricks I learned to max fuel economy (14 to 15 mpg at 65 mph) is remove front drive shaft, cat back exhaust, bigger mass air meter, mustang throttle body, synthetic oil, tires at max pressure and I tow in overdrive on level ground. XLT 4.0 sohc 3.73 gears.

Thanks for the reply, after taking a close look at it I realized it was kind of a stupid question as there is basically no other way to do it. I tackled it on the weekend as well as doing a trans pan drop and fluid/filter change. I plan on doing most of the mods you listed but it seems like a pain to remove the driveshaft, although I won't use it much in the summer I guess. I am going to check if you can get manual hubs but I doubt it.

There is another way to do it - parallel instead of series. I have a vague recollection of a debate as to which one is better but most people just run it in series.
