How do I find the transmission # type? Where is this # located??

Look on the door jamb sticker under the characters "TR". Then reference that letter. Also you can find the tag on the actual transmission.

Welcome to this forum! That sticker contains a lot of good information such as the axle code, paint code, and the engine. There's also a way to decode the vin number for the engine (8th digit).

Checked under the characters "TR". Looks like I have a "V" transmission.

Thanks for this info. Now I would like to know if I can put a 2000 Explorer XLS trans into a 2002 Explorer XLS??

No that won't work. The 2000 uses a different transmission.
