so I had the clutch replaced and as I was driving it home it still fights me to get into gear in first and second, and when its in 3rd and 4th I can shake the stick back and fourth.

its worse in 1st and 2nd

the guy who did the clutch said he thought it was the syncronizor, i talked to a trans guy he said it could be something internal or external, and my mechanic friend who knows his way around fords said it could just be the fluid

I have two 5 speed Exs, one with 150,000 and a "rebuilt" trans and one with 60,000 miles and original. They both are tough to get into first gear and have some slop in the shifters. I think it may just be the nature of the beast.

As long as it doesn't grind gears and you know the clutch is dissengaging all the way, then I wouldn't worry much about it. It most likely is the syncros are worn a little. Just make sure that there is no air in the clutch hydralics and that it completely disengages. Try pushing the pedal all the way to the stop when changing gears and see if that helps. Also the trans takes about 3.5 quarts of Mercon 2 or 3 automatic trans fluid, it would not hurt to change it. Fill it up to the fill plug hole on the driver's side of the trans.

my master mechanic(whom knew what size the bolt on the side of the trans was) told me to change the fluid and add 2 tubes of graphite, so I'm gonna hop on that tomorrow, and i picked up dex III/M per what he told me to get. I'm really hoping the trans is low on fluid and just needs to be freshened up.

and as for the slop the guys over on ranger-forum said that there's nylon bushings that get worn and its a 30 buck fix...

I really don't have the money for a whole new trans

I changed the fluid, and it made no difference, I'm pretty sure my syncronizers are shot, now can I take the shafts out and take them to a shop? would that be cheaper than taking the whole car there?

You mean pull the transmission parts and take them to a shop? Bout that time you could probably do the syncros yourself. Is it only hard to get into 1st and 2nd? You might look for a transmission at a junk yard also. If you have a pull n save type wrecking yard shouldn't be overly expensive. Can pull one for $75 here when you can find one. Manuals are a little more rare but I've seen a fair number of them.
