Trans Mount

When I put my doubler in about two years ago ( about 2000 miles of driving) I also installed a new trans mount. Well while making some changes to my truck I pulled the trans mount out and it was ripping apart. Knowing another stock one would not handle the gearing the truck has I knew it was time to upgrade. I could have bought one from autofab but I am to cheap for that. So I decided to make my own. We will see how well it works when I get the truck all back together from some other small changes I am making.

I don't know what the autofab one looks like. Did you copy the design, or is that your own?

did you already beef up your engine mounts, and TC mounts too? If not they may be torque ripping as well. That looks really nice, great idea. You must be getting a ton of torque to the ground with that doubler..

The autofab one is using one bushing turned perpendicular to the way I have mine. Basically take the stock mount and put a bushing in it and you have the autofab one. I wanted something more beefy that should hold up. I can also still bolt the bracket coming off the exhaust to the trans mount as well. Right now I have the who knows how old stock engine mounts. Once I do a few other things I plan to build new engine mounts as well.

I could feel the tcase hitting the floor when I got on the throttle hard when in low-low. Now I know why I could feel it moving around.

great design, I think the Autofab unit has the bushing turned the other way to allow a slight side to side motion of the trans, but with your two bushings it should allow plenty of movement as well... when we use these stiff urethane bushings I am not sure there is much difference between this and a solid mount anymore anyways......

Engine mounts are a few items down the list for now. Maybe by the end of summer I should have some.

What would people be willing to pay for a mount like the one I built? If there is enough intrest I might be able to find a shop to have them laser or plasma cut and bent at. My plasma cutter stopped working again so I had to make all of mine with a 4.5" grinder which sucks to make a radius cuts with.

I think I paid $180 for the AutoFab mount to my door, likely cost about $35 to make total

The v8 guys who are hanging the big ol 4406 behind their 4r70w could use a good aftermarket mount, the stock rubber piece will last like a month with this setup, the 4406 t case is a HUGE SOB, luckily Napa has them for $18.

I'd pay $100 easy for this, but like you would probably just design and fab it myself, I only paid $180 to AutoFab in a pinch

I ordered new engine mounts from rock auto. For $45 I will use them for measurments then fab up my own. Anyone want to buy some new unused motor mounts for a 4.0 in a few months.

Yes i will buy the motor when you are done if they are the same ones from the 1st gen explorer. My motor mounts have 340K on them. So its time

Cool we will work something out when am done using them for mockup. Sounds like your tranny mount is really toasted.

I had one from when i swapped from a auto to a 5speed and put it in there and it was good. It did nothing. Same problem. We have concluded its the motor mounts. However i want to beef up the tranny mount too.

The entire engine moves upon take off and heavy throttle

Got the truck back together a few weeks ago and took it to the desert over thanksgiving. The tcase no longer hit the floor when I was on the gas. I am happy with how the mount turned out.

I like that mount. I still have the stock one in the stock location. But I am afraid the only thing to stop the rear case from hitting the floor is some floor mods
