I have a 1993 Explorer 4.0 I belive, maybe 3.0 auto trans. The problem I'm having is some how there is I belive trans fluid flowing into the engine. I checked engine oil and it was like 2 quarts overfilled and my trans fluid is always going low. There are no spots under vehicle, not leaking out any fluid. Last week I changed engine oil and filled it up to the full line on dip stick. The trans was 2 quarts low,so I added fluid to the full mark on trans dip stick while it was running and at normal operating temp. So far so good fluids all at full marck. Checked engine oil 1 week later and it is like 2 quarts overfull again and trans fluid is 2 quarts low again.

I had a problem with the vacume lines that attach to the drivers side, side of the intake manifold, they fell out of there places on that fitting. A friend plugged them back in and I belive he also plugged in the vacume line that went to the cruise control, hooked all of them onto the manifold fitting.

I opened the throttel plate to spray cleaner on it and noticed oil or trans fluid in there. What is going on with this.

Does the vacume line that is supose to go to the cruise control, does that flow trans fluid to the controler? Is that why there is trans fluid flowing into engine?

Welcome to this forum! Replace your vacuum modulator on the passenger's side of the transmission.

Thank you very much. Is this easy to do? Can you give me a step by step how to do this?

91-96's were all 4.0 V6's....5.0s werent introduced until 97, those are the only 2 engines in the 1st and 2nd gens....good luck with your prob though hopefully its an easy fix :)

The 5.0 was introduced in 1996, not 1997 as was posted somewhere in this thread. The 4.0 SOHC was introduced in 1997.

Anyhow, I digress....

Thanks for the help. I installed a new vacuum modulator yesterday with no problems. I pulled the seats, center console, pulled carpet back and removed the floor pan access panel. It was a bit tight to get my big hands down there to get to the bolt to take off the heat sheild and take out the bolt holdding the C clip/strap that holds the V/M in,but all done and went smooth. THANKS
