trans or tcase problem?

i have a 92 ex xlt 4.0 when driving at random it seems to go into neutral and then is followed by a ratcheting sound and when you put it into park if the brake pedal is not pressed very hard down it grinds like hell once in park if the pedal has been firmly pressed if put back into drive it will go back into gear properly sometimes when it slips out of gear if i let off the gas for a miniute it will go back to normal but not allways.the problem only seems to happend when vechile is not under accel. any ideas any advice is greatly appericated

Kinda sounds like a transfer case with a loose, bent, or broken shift fork.

how could it not be in 2wheel when i never touched the 4 wheel how can i manualy switch it into 2 wheel
