I've got a '94 EB that is having a few issues. It started to shift late out of 1st into 2nd so I took it to my transmission guy. I told him what it was doing and the fact that it didn't do it all the time.

Well he asked me why I even took it to him cause he said there was nothing wrong with it. This is the 2nd transmission it's had. The place I took it to have it checked is also the place that did the replacement work about 1 1/2 ago. It's starting to do this shifting thing more and more now though. It shifts really late out of 1st, but it seems like once it does it a couple of times and you're driving it, it doesn't do it anymore.

Can anyone think of anything that could be wrong? Something I can tell the trans guy? I'm worried cause I don't want to lose another trans... they're too expensive to be easily replaceable.

Thanks guys.

Hey Scott

I'm having the exact same problem you are. It won't shift out of first until the trans warms up. Mine only does it sometimes too. Your problem is most likely the governor. Here's a link to what I think is your problem and mine, and how to fix it (don't worry, it's much cheaper than a rebuild).

Dead Link Removed

Here's something that was recommended by my mechanic to try before you start pulling the trans apart. Park on a level surface, put the parking brake on, and stand on the brake. Shift into reverse and hit the gas for a few seconds. What this will do is force fluid through the governor and hopefully will disloge whatever dirt may be in there. Unfortunately, it didn't fix my problem, but since I'm hopefully going to be getting rid of this thing in the next few months, I'm just hoping it will hold up.

Well, unfortunately, the reverse trick didn't do it. I've driven it a little more like this, but I just can't handle it. I've tried the trick a couple of times and it's a no go.

I'm just going to take it back to the transmission guy who said there was nothing wrong with it now that's it's doing it way more and tell him to deal with it.

We'll see what the damage is on the wallet soon now.

Thanks for your help guys.
