Trans slipping after new modulator?!?

Wife's explorer was running good except the infamous pinging. Searched this wonderful website, checked everything mentioned, still pinging. Pulled a vac line off the back of the intake, and, get tranny fluid running out. Go to Autozone, get new modulator, curse, install, curse some more, and go for test drive. Now the tranny is slipping from 2nd to 3rd. Start to adjust the screw in on the modulator. It keeps going and going and going. Get my mirror, look to see how far I went, and see I only went as deep as the screw was long. Go for another test drive, still slipping, didn't change a thing. How far does the adjusting screw go in? Any suggestions would be helpful.

That only is to ajust shift point up and down some does it shift fast or slow or the same
