so i have a 99 explorer with an auto trans and about 100,000 miles ago it started slipping really bad but we found out that if you put the car in 1st 2nd then drive the slipping stops and it drives fine but if you back out of your drive way and throw it in drive it feels like someones driving stick and not letting the clutch out all the way which is why ive turned to this forum because i cant find anything on the internet explaining why my truck drives fine if i put it in 1st 2nd then drive also the truck has 240,000 miles on it now and the slipping is about the same as it was 100,000 miles ago. i know it all sounds confusing but if anyone else has had the same problem i would really appreciate it if you could let me know how to fix it. because i love my exploder too much to junk it

When you use manual first, there is an additional component used over drive first. Manual 2 is actualy third gear in the 5R55E trans, by using manual first and second you are skipping over the bad drive first gear component. If the OD light flashes in drive get the trans code read. I don't have a manual where I now am or I might be more able to point out the bad component or what to check, It could be a valve body part.
