Transfer box sensors

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone out there in UK Explorer land will know the answer to this one. I'm looking for the UK partnumber(s) for the sensor array that reads the the speed of the front and rear propshafts as they exit the transfer box. I've tried searching for them but no joy and the local Ford main agent can't find them either. Their microfiche/computer thingy is just pants, you can't identify what part does what and as these are a special order, if they turn up and they're wrong - tough! Now that's what I call customer service. If anyone knows of a source for these other than Ford UK that would good too.

in 97 the VSS (variable speed sensor) was located on the transfercase. ( I am assuming that the UK explorers are the same in this respect as the USA models)

update

Just thought I'd update you all on the work so far. Got a set of sensors from the States (£144 all in shipped) Ford UK wanted £350 - non refundable - up front with no guarantee if they would fit or even if they'd be sensors as they could'nt identify the part no. or even what the sensors were on their own drawings. They also would'nt give a delivery date - Really impressive.

Fitted the sensors and a new shift motor that we had just to be sure. But we can only get the thing to select Auto and 4x4 hi. No 4x4 lo. And it'll only do this 2 times out of 10. The rest of the time we're still getting the flashing lights.

So now it's down to tracing the loom back along the chassis to see if we've got a break somewhere.

Unless of course anyone else has a better idea?

Sure, they measure the speed of the front and rear propshafts so the car can decide where to direct the torque if there is a difference in speed. This is how the transmission operates when auto is selected on the dash. They appear to fail with advancing age (a bit like me really). Their failure is one of the causes of the flashing 4x4/4x4lo lights on the dash. I think.
