The Damper on the rear of my 96 ED Transfer Case vibrate, with a kind of buzz, the throttle, floorboards and seat anytime the engine is at 2500 rpm. Very irrirating. Is this normal? Can the Damper just be removed? Why is this thing here anyway? Please help me before I do something rash.
Thanks-Jerry

Is it loose?
UNless it is loose it would not vibrate, it is bolted to the T case.

I suspect something else is the source of your problem. Can you describe what is happening?

I removed the damper from my truck long ago, but only because my truck did not come with one (BII) and I didnt feel any difference without it, I have custom driveshafts and trans mount and motor moutsn etc etc so I didnt need it.
it is a Ford bandaid to fight natural 4.)L OHV drivetrain vibrations and shimmeys :) You will also find a shock absorber (damper) on some engines and another weight damper on some 8.8 rear axles :)
