transfer case flange

Anyone know if the "bowl" on the tcase is removable, where the driveshaft bolts up. This is on my 97. I'm having trouble getting a new shaft made to for my Dana 30 axle. If this "bowl" is removable, i could get a flange for a u-joint on there, but i'm thinking this is not removable, thanks.

Talk to Tom Woods they made a custom front driveshaft for lizardtrac that fit his stock t-case. Though i would highly reccomend upgrading your t-case. Last time i was out with Chris his TOD started calling it quits. When there was alot of force on the front end the TOD clutch would start slipping. If you have the money Id recommend going with a BW 1354 Manual shift. I have one in my truck and its great.

Yeah i just checked on a 1354 from junkyard dog and someone replied saying they wanted 400 bucks for it. I just emailed Chris to see about his driveshaft. How do i get ahold of tom?

It is easy for a decent drive shaft company to fix up. You take the old one off and they make a new flange that a u-joint goes in and it screws in where you just took the old one out. Mine is out right now so I can take a pic or two when I get home to show you how mine was done.

If you could that would be awesome, that would save me some money. The local place i took it to today said they have no way of doing it, so i'm screwed as of right now, unless i can print off a picture and show it to them so they can see what it is we are talking about.

If the pic doesn't work I can give you the number of the place here and you can call them to see if they can ship you the flange or some other place. They may even be able to do your shaft by you shipping it off to them, I don't know, they wanted mine there for measurements. I'll be home in a couple hours. If all else fails a machine chop could make the flange.

I know that feeling. I was on Golden Spike in Moab when mine started going out

I called 4xshaft. Talked with Troy. He said the adapter was 100 bucks, then a new shaft with a joint on each end and a slip yoke would be 249. So 349 for a new set up. That's not bad. Cory said his place out in california would be 460 and would take 2 weeks. Troy told me it would take a couple of days for the adapter and then a day for the shaft. So i could have it maybe this time next week, which would be great. So, as soon as Dave gives me his number, i'll call out there. But i'll probably go with Troy, they offer free shipping too. Are there products pretty good?

My place was just a bit over 200 to adapt it and lengthen the shaft. Anything more than that is a bit rediculous in my book unless you are going CV them maybe a bit more. Mine turned out great and I have had no problems. Going to go get the pics now

This came from Patterson Driveshafts 317-481-0495. I forget the guys name that I delt with but there are only a couple guys there that will talk to customers about this sort of thing. If you tell him what you are doing and remind him he did it for a black explorer last summer he will remember me. He remembered when SSIKORA caled a month ago. I don't know if he will do the whole shaft without taking the meassurements himself, but he might, he could atleast get you set with the flange. If not you have pics to take elsewhere. A machine shop can get the measurements off the old cv shaft for diameter and bolt hole locations.

I too have been wondering about all this with a SFA. It is a more extreme angle but the t-case is far enough back you should still be able to do it with a single caradine shaft. It all depends on your pinion angle too.

I like that. See, i don't know why my local place wouldn't do that. I'm going to print a few of those off adn take it up there tomorrow and then maybe they could do it, if not then i'll give that place a call. I just emailed somewhere else too, so we'll see tomorrow. Thanks Dave.

Well i just forked out the 400 bucks to Tom. I couldn't get anything made here locally that would even come close to his price, so that's okay. It should be here this time next week. Thanks for the help guys!
