Transfer Case Fluid

Could someone tell me what kind of oil the transfer case for an A4ld takes and where to check/add it?

It takes mercon transmission fluid. There are two pipe plugs on the back of the transfer case, remove the upper one while you are parked on a level surface, if the oil is at the bottom of the hole it's full. If you want to drain the fluid remove the lower plug.
