My previous post was about a shuddering jerking grunting noise from the front but it is actually the transfer case. I took it to a reputable transmission shop and they said it was in the transfer case. A solenoid NOT the shift motor because when we went on a road test it shifted into 4wheel low and it did the shudder deal also when he put it in 4wheel high it did it. He said its trying to engage the front axle but isn't and said since it actually went into low the motor should be OK. Is there a known problem with the internal solenoid and is there a way to disable auto4wd without removing the front drive shaft? This is NOT full time AWD. Tried to remove the front drive shaft, removed 6 bolts transfer case end and both saddles on front of shaft. Tried for 2 hours to get it loose from the transfer case. pblaster, hammer, screwdriver and it wouldn't budge! Bolted it back together and I disconnected the harness at the transfer case motor and am hoping that will allow me to use it as 2WD. I am ssooo discouraged at this point, no road test drive due to sudden monsoon!! Wondering why it would go into low 4WD to the rear axle and not the front? Is there a separate fork or solenoid for the front drive shaft?
