My 2001 Expedition (I know, it's not an Explorer but where else can I turn to?) has a problem with the electric clutch that governs torque to the front wheels. It's AWD , 4 Hi , 4 Lo. I dropped the front drive shaft so I could continue driving the vehicle. Is replace the clutch plates etc. in the case do-able in my garage or am I better off doing a rebuilt? I have all the service manuals (EBay bought). Any thoughts out there???
Bill
LMAO replacing the clutches in the transfer case is wicked easy bud. Myself and a buddy just did mine and it took only 2 and half hours. just drop the T-case pull the back plate STRAIGHT off and you can pretty much see what to do from there..........
