I just got a pretty 94 STX 4.0 Automatic 4x4 with electric shift. I knew the 4wd didn't work when I bought it, thinking it was either the little motor onthe transfer case or the 4wd computer. Well, I have changed both and still no luck. I can get the transfercase to kick in for a minute, maybe 2, but then it kicks back out. I also do not have any dashlight indicators or indicator lights next to the push buttons. They do flash occasionaly, but nothing consistant.

When I did my checking, I had the truck off the ground on blocks.

I can't believe how stubborn I am. After swapping in a few used motors, cutting and splicing in a new style motor, re-cutting and splicing my old motor, I finally followed the directions a little better (well, I read them)

Oh, yeah. I forgot about swapping the 4wd computer a few times, and the little gizmo with the magnet, and the thing that goes into the transfercase with the speedo cable. That ain't the problem either.

Seems that my contacts were a little dirty on my ORIGINAL motor.

Now a new problem, my transfercase engages perfect, front drive shaft turns, now my automatic hubs wont engage. I took one off and the guts didn;t fall out, that usually means they are good, right ? I would buy a used set of auto's, there must be a few sets out there. It seems I can't sell a set of used auto hubs, but can't keep a pair of manual hubs around for the 7.5" axels.
