So I blew my transfer case gears so I went to the salvage yard to just buy another case till I can afford to rebuild my other there was only three 4405s out there so naturally I go to the one with lowest miles first to see if it's good so I pull the drain plug to see the fluid condition for a rough idea on the condition and the fluid comes out looking like a mix between Elmer's glue and water but thick like glue at first I though ok never changed but may be ok till a chunk of medel the size of a dime comes out no good so go to the next one the fluid starts to drain like tooth paste and is grey not really dark or light no metal chunks this time that I can find due to only maybe a few ml of fluid came out the rest was stuck in after 5 mins of draining what would cause fluid to do this? The 3rd one was good had a fresh rebuild but I just want to know what can cause the fluid of that other one to turn like that the truck only had 130k on it and had a garage mark to show othe had been changed and the mark looked relatively new
