Transfer Case Question!

Hope this is the right spot. I have a 1998 ford explorer with a 5.0 L in it. It's a Limited edition, and it is AWD. Is there a way to convert this into a part time electric or whatever 4 wd? I have been told no, but thought I would come here to see if anyone else has done this. Thanks

I could be wrong but I believe you are seeking a 4406 swap.

Okay thanks, but this is what a guy who sells transfer cases on eBay had to say when I replied to one of his cases. "I understand the reasoning but it won't work without major changes to the electrical and computer systems. This vehicle only came AWD wasn't provisioned for anything else."

He probably was referring to the BW case, but still he's got me wondering.

It does thanks. I would like to stay with an automatic, I guess I don't know how he made that work. I wish I had the same year lol, being a 98 am sure they changed something.

Check out my registry (linked below). It contains links to the PO who did the 4406 in mine. There are several others on this forum that have also done the 4406 swaps. It seems that the manual shift 4406 is the easiest to do, but I seem to remember seeing someone do an electric shift one also.
